Itinerary Details

Day 01: Arrive at Leh

Arrival at Leh by morning flight and transfer to the hotel. After a welcome drink, take complete rest for acclimatization to the altitude of Leh (3500 mtrs). In the late afternoon, drive to the city for an orientation walk in the markets, followed by a visit to Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Leh.

Day 02: Leh (Excursion to monasteries)

Post breakfast, visit Spituk Monastery, built in the 15th century during the reign of Grags ‘bum-lde. This new Gelug-pa monastery was built like a fortress on the summit of crags. Also visit the Hall of Fame near Leh, a glorious museum constructed by the Indian Army and worth a visit for every citizen. Post lunch, proceed for a sightseeing tour visiting Sankar Gompa, located approximately 3 km from the town of Leh. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Leh.

Day 03: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La 18,390 ft. (120 kms / 4–5 hrs)

Post breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley via Khardung La (the second highest motorable road in the world) at 5,602 mtrs / 18,390 ft, around 39 km from Leh. From the pass, enjoy views of the Indus Valley to the south and the Saser Massif to the north. Nubra Valley, also known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers, lies between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges at an average altitude of 10,000 ft.
Upon arrival in Nubra, check in at the camp/hotel in Hunder for dinner and overnight stay. In the evening, walk around the tiny villages to experience local life.

Day 04: Nubra Valley (Excursion to Turtuk) – 80 kms one way

After an early breakfast, proceed to Turtuk, a remote village won by India in the 1971 war with Pakistan, located close to the border. Places to visit include a 16th-century mosque (with Turkish and Iranian influences), a ruined fort of Dhards, and a monastery. Enjoy the breathtaking view of K2 peak, the second highest mountain in the world. Return to Hunder for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 05: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake (150 kms / 5 hrs)

After an early breakfast, check out and head towards Hunder for a ride on a Bactrian camel (double humped) amidst high-altitude sand dunes. Then visit Diskit, the headquarters of Nubra Valley. Explore the bazaar and observe local daily life. Drive towards Pangong Tso via Agham and Shyok Valley, a challenging but scenic route. After crossing the adventurous terrain, continue through Durbuk and Tangtse, passing small villages of Changthang. Enjoy the first glimpse of the majestic Pangong Lake at 14,000 feet (4,267 m). Check in at the camp/hotel near the lake. Dinner and overnight stay at camp in Pangong

Day 06: Pangong Lake to Leh via Changla (140 kms / 6 hrs)

Enjoy a relaxed morning at Pangong Lake, known for its changing shades of blue depending on time and angle of view. Later, drive back to Leh via Changla Pass (5,486 mtrs). Enroute, visit Hemis Gompa, the largest monastic institution of the Drukpa Kagyu order, Thiksey Monastery, built in a tiered structure above the village, and Shey Palace, the ancient capital of Ladakh. Also visit the famous 3 Idiots Rancho School. Arrive at Leh for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 07: Leh to Kargil (230 kms / 7 hrs)

After breakfast, drive along the Indus River on the Leh–Kargil highway. Visit Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, nestled deep in the Himalayas, then Magnetic Hill, a mysterious stretch of road that defies gravity. Continue to Sangam Point, the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Before Saspul, a right turn leads to Likir Monastery, known for its golden Maitreya statue. Continue to Uletokpo or Tingmosgang, enroute visiting Ridzong Monastery, located at the end of a steep valley. Further ahead, visit the 11th-century Lamayuru Monastery and the fascinating Moon Landscapes. Drive over Fotu La (13,489 ft), the highest pass on the Srinagar–Leh road. Reach Kargil, check in to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 08: Kargil to Srinagar via Sonmarg (204 kms / 7 hrs)

After early breakfast, depart for Srinagar via Drass, the second coldest inhabited place on earth. Enjoy views of the Kargil War Peaks including Tiger Hill and Tololing Peak. Stop at Vijay Smarak, a war memorial dedicated to the Indian soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War. Continue your journey via Sonmarg, also known as the Meadow of Gold. Arrive in Srinagar by afternoon and check in to your hotel or houseboat for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 09: Depart Srinagar (Fly out)

Tour concludes with a punctual transfer to the domestic airport to catch your flight to the onward destination.
